Debbie began her career as a primary special and regular education teacher in an elementary school setting (PreK-5) She shared her passion with children and families believing that each individual is exceptional and has the capacity to thrive.
She understands how emotions can impact learning and a child’s school success.
After 25 years of teaching, Debbie furthered her studies to become a school counselor. It was here that she recognized the importance of teaching children social and emotional skills including coping strategies and self-regulation skills. She used research-based curriculums to teach Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes to PreK-4th grade students. In addition, she facilitated individual and group counseling, while monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of behavior support plans to increase responsible behavior and reduce negative behavior. She understands the importance of a multi-disciplinary team approach between parents, therapists and your child’s educators.
Combining knowledge and skills acquired through education and 35 years of professional experience working in the school system, Debbie uses a humanistic approach in treating a variety of populations and at-risk individuals. She specializes in treating ADHD, Autism, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, Learning Disorders, emotional-dysregulation, self-esteem, anger management, social skills, children in foster care and interpersonal struggles. In addition, Debbie offers support, resources, guidance and strategies to parents and caregivers to help restore balance back into their lives.
Debbie believes stress can present itself and challenge children, adolescents, young adults, and their families in ways unique to them. By meeting clients where they are, she tailors her therapeutic approach by exploring patterns, processing emotions and building on strengths to foster growth and healing. She uses Child-Centered Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Structural Family Therapy. She also includes an educational approach by teaching and coaching children and their families as they learn about themselves and their relationships.

Debbie is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Special and Regular Education from Eastern Illinois University as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. Realizing the importance of a healthy mind, body and spirit, she earned her Master’s in School and Clinical Counseling from Lindenwood University becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She continued working in the school setting as a School Counselor for 10 years. During those 10 years, she continued her studies in education, earning her PhD in Special Education from Saint Louis University.
